SONY Laptops cannot use Windows 7 XP Mode
This is a really bad news for Sony Laptop users. Windows 7′s XP mode cannot run on Sony Laptops because hardware virtualization feature is disabled for “security reasons.” This simply means XP Mode on Windows 7 cannot run on Sony laptops. Although Sony says that they will re-enable the feature on select models there’s still a large number of VAIO users who won’t be able to use XP mode.
So what are the drawbacks of not being able to run Windows 7′s XP mode?
- Applications that are not compatible with Windows 7 cannot be used with Windows 7 at all.
- Corporate software that are built for Windows XP will need to be re-written in order for it to run on Windows 7 under a Sony laptop.
Sony’s reason for disabling the feature is “Security.” According to their QA and engineers, they were “Very concerned that enabling VT would expose our systems to malicious code that could go very deep in the Operating System structure of the PC and completely disable the latter.”
Now customers who purchased a sony laptop before the Windows 7 release are very mad and a lot are demanding for refunds and others are already calling for class-action suit against Sony.
If I am a Sony laptop user I will be pissed because of this. Windows XP mode on Windows 7 is a nifty feature that makes the life of the user easier. So if you want to use the XP mode of Windows 7 on a Sony laptop, don’t buy one yet.
