Nokia RX-5 Tablet Prototype

504x_nokia-rover-itw-shot-rm-engPictures of a mysterious Nokia tablet dubbed as RX-5 has been going around the internet.

The tablet claims to have a 5MP Carl Zeiss camera, a full QWERTY sliding keyboard, and the following specifications:

  • 800×480 pixels screen resolution – pretty nice resolution for a tablet or mobile phone
  • FM Transmitter and Receiver – does this mean the tablet/phone can be used as two-way radio?
  • Accelerometer – pretty standard nowadays
  • Internal 128MB DDR Memory manufactured by Samsung
  • Keyboard similar to N810
  • Chipset OMAP3 ARM by Texas Instruments with support for Frequency Scaling
  • Linux Operating System – well it’s about time Nokia innovates with other OS.  Their Symbian OS is lacking a lot of features already and cannot cope up with the current technologies.

The tablet looks pretty interesting.  Whether it’s a tablet or a mobile phone we’re yet to find out.  With the specifcations stated above, it seems like a bigger version of their N97 with different operating system and design.  There’s a lot of questions about this claimed prototype of a Nokia RX-5 tablet.  My first question is, will it redeem the design flaws and other flaws of the N97?  Will it appeal to tablet PC users? And will it appeal to the general public?  We’re yet to find out.  We’ll keep an eye on this one and give you an update once there’s one.
