Dual SIM Phone Market is growing
There are about 70 million mobile phone user in the Philippines. This is about 80 percent of the country’s population which pegged at 91 million. Many Filipinos, according to reports, owns more than one handset.
Many Filipinos do this to save up on costs by using Unlimited Calls and Texts. Most Filipino users use two different mobile phone provider such as Globe and Smart. Globe offeres unlimited texting and calls which helps them save up.
This is a sign of a growing business in the dual sim phone market. So instead of using two phones, users can opt to use only one phone with two SIM cards active.
There’s more models of dual-SIM phones now than before. Samsung, LG, Acer, among others are now venturing into the dual-SIM phone market.
Another company is trying to venture out on this niche, the Chinese firm Torque. The CEO of Topstrasse, Chris Uyco, a company which distributes Torque handsets in the Philippines, predicts that about 30 percent of the current mobile phone market will be captured by the dual-SIM phone market.
“Twenty million dual SIM phones will be sold over the next three to five years,” Uyco said.
“Add to this the abundance of call and text promos being offered by the three network carriers that encouraged subscribers to maintain not just one but two or even three mobile sim cards at the same time, thus enabling them to constantly keep in touch,” Uyco said.
For me, using a dual-SIM phone is better than using two different mobile phones primarily because of convenience.
