Google Chrome for Mac OS X
Google has released a developer preview of its web browser, Google Chrome.
On the Welcome screen, Google gives a warning about security and other stuff
about the pre-release version of the browser.
“This release is not appropriate for general consumer use…”
Certainly. With some security features still not available, this release is not appropriate for daily consumer browsing as it might expose your computer to possible attacks. Although Mac OS X is a secured operating system, attacks can still be initiated through a vulnerability exposed by a browser.
The interface, however, is very similar to its Windows version. Very minimalist, clean and sleek.
The default home page displays “Recent Activities” pane which shows browsing history and recent file downloads. Also a “Tips and Suggestions” pane shows links of possible pages of interest based on the users browsing history and pages he frequently visits. This feature is quite good for me as it makes
browsing easier and faster.
As we all know Chrome is based from WebKit, an open source browser framework, it renders pages the same way as Safari and Firefox does, which is a good point. Chrome, however, renders pages faster and more efficiently than any other browser based on my experience.
So overall, it’s a pretty good release although it still cannot replace your current browser. Let’s await further development of this software and I know lots of new features will be added in future releases.
